Hello! My name is Alexis Mancilla, and I am a recent graduate of UCSB, with a Bachelor of Music Performance with a Flute Emphasis, and a minor in Educational Studies. Throughout my time at UCSB, I was involved in, and held leadership positions in the following organizations: Hermanas Unidas de UCSB, M.E.N.T.O.R., and Raices de mi Tierra. In addition to my campus roles, I was a Resident Assistant for two academic years at San Nicolas Residence Halls and for two summer semesters of the Freshman Summer Start Program (FSSP). While simultaneously pursuing my educational and extracurricular endeavors, I worked at a local music store for a few years in sales and instruments repair, and am currently a music teacher there! Before its closure, I worked at the drive-in that’s just outside of Henley Gate in “Goleta”!
My experiences so far in residential life have continuously impacted the career pathway I am currently taking, and are constantly derived from my leadership experience in campus positions in amalgamation with my experiences collaborating with campus partners. My goals as they relate to residential life and student affairs, are centered around supporting students and student leaders in their academic, professional, and personal expeditions. Creating not only a sustainable environment, but one in which team members and residents are thriving, will be incorporated into my mission of positively impacting communities and providing resources that cater to individual needs. I was originally raised in East Los Angeles, specifically Montebello, and moved to Santa Clarita where my family currently resides. My ethnicity, identifying as Mexican, is incredibly important to me and how I present myself. Both my parents and family are immigrants from various areas of Mexico and my culture, and the relationship I have with being the first generation of my family born in America, are imperative qualities that persistently constitute to my personhood. Another major facet of my identity is that I am the oldest sister of four siblings. I’ve always embraced my naturally-assigned responsibility as the role model of my family and they originate all of my inspiration to pursue my passions and excel in any environment I’m in! My personal interests are multiplying by the day, but my longlasting obsessions have revolved around preserving forms of media. I have collections of vinyls, cassette tapes, CD’s, DVD’s, books, etc. Music and movies consist of most of the conversations that I hold with others, and can spend hours talking about every movie I’ve ever seen and every song I’ve ever listened to! |
