Changing Rooms
We understand that sometimes it's just not a great fit! If that happens, our staff is ready to connect with you and discuss your options. The room change process involves the collaboration of various staff members across multiple offices.
You may choose to start this process with your Resident Assistant. RA's are available to connect with you and talk through the issues you may be experiencing in your current apartment. Our goal is to work with residents to create a residential environment where people can pursue their interests safely.
Meeting with your RA can help you make a plan for the issues you want to address, and the way in which you meet with your fellow apartment-mates to discuss. RA's are available to facilitate roommate mediations which include: individual chats, group discussion, reviewing roommate agreements, and identifying new guidelines for apartment living.

Filing the Paperwork
SMSJ Lead Staff coordinates moves with: the University & Community Housing Services office, Residential Operations, Maintenance, and Sierra Madre Office coordinator/s. If you determine that the next step for you is to change rooms, there are two different avenues to make this change: Room Swaps & Room Changes.
Room Swaps facilitate bed space changes within your apartment and require the agreement and signature of all current apartment residents, on the room swap form. The resident initiating the room swap is responsible for the collection of all signatures. Once signatures have been collected, this form is sent to SMSJ Lead Staff via email for final approval and processing.
Room Changes facilitate bed space changes to a different undergraduate apartment altogether. This process can be initiated by completing the Room Change google form, which is then processed by SMSJ Lead Staff. Room changes require 5-7 days of processing time. Lead Staff will set the move date and send you an automated link where you can reassign yourself to a new bed space from the available spaces in undergraduate apartments.
**Please note: room changes/swaps are not processed during the first 2 weeks and the last 2 weeks of each quarter.
