Presenting: Dr. Eric Campbell
Dr. Eric W. Campbell is Associate Professor of Linguistics and Faculty in Residence for Sierra Madre and San Joaquin Villages. He lives in San Joaquin Calaveras Court with his two daughters. Originally from the Detroit, Michigan area, Professor Campbell is a first generation student and was a non-traditional transfer student receiving his B.A. from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 2005. He earned his M.A. (2009) and Ph.D (2014) from the University of Texas at Austin focusing on the documentation and description of an Indigenous language of Oaxaca, Mexico. Professor Campbell's research focuses on the structure and use of Mexican Indigenous languages spoken in Mexico and in the Central Coast of California, with a focus on language and social justice and collaborative work that centers community goals as well as academic outcomes. He is affiliated with Latin American and Iberian Studies (LAIS), the American Indian and Indigenous Collective (AIIC), and he co-directs the Center for California Languages and Cultures (CCALC). At leisure, Professor Campbell enjoys swimming and bodyboarding at local beaches, cooking (especially seafood), travel, yoga, and sci-fi and fantasy viewing entertainment, as well as indie rock, deep house, and hip-hop listening.
